It was midnight, pouring rain outside.
A friend came over with his seven-year-old daughter, Mia. She had lost her rescue dog, Barnaby, earlier that week. The poor girl just sat on the rug, sobbing uncontrollably. Her parents tried everything—a new plush toy, chocolate, gentle promises—but nothing worked.
I wanted so badly to give her something. Something she could hold onto. Something that said, “Barnaby was real, he loved you, and it’s okay to miss him.”
I looked around the room. All I had was plastic gadgets, paper receipts, and screens. Nothing in my home felt heavy enough, permanent enough, or warm enough to match the weight of a little girl’s broken heart. My hands felt completely empty.
That night, after they left, I went into my workshop. I picked up a piece of raw American black walnut and an old sheet of heavy watercolor paper. I wrote down Barnaby’s name, the year he came home, and a simple line: “Forever loved, forever home.” I pressed a dark red wax seal into the corner, just to give it a quiet sense of promise.

Four days later, I handed it to Mia. She didn’t say a word. She just ran her small fingers over the rough paper and the smooth, warm grain of the dark wood. And for the first time in a week, she hugged it tightly to her chest and finally smiled through her tears.
That was the moment Keepsake Lore was born.
We aren’t a factory, and we don’t make decor for empty walls. Today, I’ve brought together a small collective of us—passionate woodworkers, calligraphers, and printmakers who genuinely care about the craft. Together, we handcraft these solid black walnut plaques one by one.

We make them for the vows you never want to forget, the pets that raised you, and the memories too precious to leave on a phone screen.
Because when words matter most, they deserve a place that lasts.
Warmly,
Leo
